IMI Kenya is a women-led, youth-driven Community-Based Organization (CBO) established in September 2022 in Isiolo County to support sustainable development initiatives across the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) regions of Kenya. Founded by a dynamic group of passionate individuals, IMI Kenya was created in response to the pressing need for grassroots-led solutions that empower local communities, particularly women and youth, who are often the most affected by poverty, inequality, and climate challenges in ASAL areas.
While formally registered in 2022, the vision and work of IMI Kenya trace back to 2021, when the founding members began their journey of serving underserved communities through informal initiatives focused on education, health, and economic development. Over time, these efforts evolved into a more structured, community-centered organization committed to amplifying local voices, enhancing livelihoods, promoting good governance, and advancing gender equality.
IMI Kenya’s growth from a grassroots movement to a recognized community-based organization is a testament to its deep-rooted commitment to creating inclusive, sustainable change. Today, IMI Kenya continues to empower women, uplift youth, and champion community-led development across Isiolo and other ASAL counties in Kenya.
